Clue from people AD 1883 Mexican (L'Astronomie, 1885) 📍 Zacatecas, Mexico

Bonilla's report: on his photograph 'the image of the Sun is not in focus, but that of the body is'; focused on the bodies, that night the planets were out of focus and 'only the Moon was almost in focus'

L'Astronomie 4: 347-350. Equatorial of 0.16 m aperture, projected solar image 250 mm, photographs 67 mm (66 mm on the print), wet collodion, 1/100 s. 'Apres divers essais pour mettre parfaitement au point les corps... L'image du Soleil n'est pas au foyer, mais bien celle du corps.' On 13 Aug he focused the finder, the equatorial and a 0.10 m Foucault reflector on the Sun and the bodies; at night, without changing focus, on the planets and the Moon: 'la Lune seule se voyait presque au foyer'. He concluded the bodies were nearer than the Moon. Tracks ran roughly west to east across the disk. Bodies looked round in projection, irregular on the photographs, 'luminous with bright trails' outside the disk. Editor's note: the body on the print is oval, 0.9 x 0.6-0.7 mm, Sun 66 mm, 'the Sun is not in focus, but the corpuscle is'; probably birds, insects or high dust. The 2011 paper cites the date 1 January 1886, the bound volume's preface date.
