Fourteen cocoliztli epidemics, 1545 to 1813

Acuna-Soto et al. 2004: major epidemics 1545, 1576, 1736, 1813; lesser 1559, 1566, 1587, 1592, 1601, 1604, 1606, 1613, 1624, 1642. In 1576 to 1580 the 1570 and 1579-80 censuses show about 51 percent population loss across 157 communities, heaviest among native people and in the highlands.
