Every ergotism epidemic Hirsch knew, with place and form: gangrenous (mostly France, the Middle Ages onward) and convulsive (mostly Germany, from 1581). 117 European epidemics from 1000 on, after leaving out the ones he calls doubtful. Near the dances: ergotism in Poitou in 1236 (dance at Erfurt 1237) and in France in 1373 (dance from June 1374). Nothing within a year of 1278, 1381, 1418, 1428, 1518, 1536 or 1551.
