Clue from people AD 1054 European

Latin Europe recorded 1 of the 3 medieval supernovae (1006 yes; 1054, 1181 no)

1006 (about magnitude -7.5, the brightest) is in several European annals (St Gallen, Benevento) and in Egypt and Yemen. 1054 (bright enough to see by day): no secure Latin record; the Arab physician Ibn Butlan, in Constantinople in 1054, mentions 'the spectacular star that appeared in Gemini' in 446 AH (1054 to 1055); proposed Latin candidates (Rampona codex; the Aldenburg tract on Pope Leo IX's death) are disputed. 1181 (much fainter): no European record. So Latin chroniclers wrote down only the most spectacular new star, and the 1054 silence is unusual but not unique.
