Narrowed the 1458 mystery volcano with glass chemistry
Downloaded the shard-by-shard chemistry from the 2025 Vostok study and the reference glass from a 2023 study of Taupo ash in Antarctica, and scored every reference against the 1458 rhyolite. No match is convincing, Reclus is not special, and potassium rules out ocean-arc and Antarctic volcanoes, leaving the southern Andes or New Zealand. New Zealand's ash record argues against it, so the Patagonian Andes are favoured. Also checked and set aside: the Loisels drift pumice found in Maori sites (wrong date, wrong rock).
