Hobbyist idea: Putana in Chile was one of several eruptions behind the 1809 signal
From the r/Volcanoes post Ken found (August 2023) and a VolcanoCafe comment. The claim is that Putana erupted around 1810 and that its ash fits the glass found in the ice, but that it was too small to make the whole signal, so it was one of a cluster.
What checks out: the Smithsonian's volcano database does list a Putana eruption 'about 1810, give or take ten years', with no details. The cluster idea matches the published evidence that the ice layer holds glass from more than one source (Yalcin 2006; Plunkett 2023 points to Antarctic, Alaskan and Indonesian sources).
What does not: the same database cites a later assessment that Putana had no historical eruptions at all, and the plus or minus ten years means the date is barely known. The 'ash fits the ice' claim comes from a blog comment, and we found no published chemistry comparing Putana with the 1809 glass. Putana is not among the sources Plunkett 2023 names.
