Barbaro: the full Moon rose like a three-day Moon, and the air was clear as crystal, 22 May 1453

The Moon rose an hour into the night looking three days old, little of it showing, the air clear as clean crystal; it stayed so about four hours and was round again six hours into the night. The crescent fits the partial eclipse; the four hours is too long (the eclipse ended about 75 minutes after sunset), likely written from memory. The crystal-clear air is a small point against a thick haze that night.
