Violet glow in the west, its light like lightning, Korea, 25 October 1279
Goryeosa, King Chungnyeol year 5, day gui-hai, via Yau et al. 1995 entry 291: 'A violet vapour was seen in the west. It was more than 10 chi long. Its light was similar to that of lightning.' Day name checked: gui-hai falls on 25 October 1279. A western glow likened to lightning could be an aurora or a distant storm, so this is a middling candidate.
