The broken sky patched with stones: the Chinese story of Nuwa mending heaven

In Berezkin's catalogue the only two societies with the motif 'rocks fall from the sky, killing people' are Manchu and Sichuan Chinese, and the six with 'a hole in the sky filled with stones' are all Chinese or Tibetan. This is the Nuwa story, in which the goddess repairs a broken sky with five-coloured stones. The nearest young impact to any of these societies is the 1947 Sikhote-Alin fall, far too recent to have inspired it, and no Holocene crater is known in China. So this sky-fall myth has no impact behind it that we can find.
