The six visible Pleiads are the six bright ones; then comes the biggest brightness step in the cluster

V magnitudes: Alcyone 2.87, Atlas 3.63, Electra 3.70, Maia 3.87, Merope 4.18, Taygeta 4.30, then Pleione 5.09 (a step of 0.79, the largest in the cluster: the 7th star is less than half as bright as the 6th), then HD 23753 5.45, Celaeno 5.46, 18 Tau 5.64, Asterope 5.76. Glare check: HD 23753 (5.45) is 40 arcmin from any bright Pleiad and Celaeno (5.46) is 10.6 arcmin from Electra, farther than Pleione was 100,000 years ago; both are only 0.36 magnitudes fainter than Pleione, yet most people do not see them. Pleione itself is a variable star that has changed by about 0.5 magnitudes within a century.
