Ice cores: 1561-1550 BC was the busiest volcanic stretch of 1680-1500 BC (four eruptions in 12 years), and 1561 BC is the 2022 best guess for Thera
Pearson et al. 2022 Table 2 (Greenland and Antarctic sulfate, dated by the bristlecone frost rings of 1653 and 1627 BC): 1586 BC (10 Tg S, northern high latitude), 1573 (2, southern), 1561 (22, two-pole, northern-weighted; 'evidence presented in this study appears to best converge on the 1561 BCE sulfate for Thera'), 1558 (10), 1555 (6), 1550 (17, southern), 1539 (6). Only 1654 (50) and 1628 (Aniakchak, 52) were bigger in the window. The 1989 JPL work matched Jie's omens to the Greenland acid layer then dated 1645 BC, which is now dated 1628 BC and given to Aniakchak in Alaska.
