Kyoto: strange clouds in the northern sky and two white bands across the sky, evening of 21 September 1098

Chuyuki (diary of Fujiwara no Munetada), Dai Nihon Kokiroku edition vol. 4 p. 48, note on the back of the scroll (裏書) placed after the entry for 承徳2年8月24日, margin heading 天變 (sky anomaly): '晩頭北天有奇雲云々、白氣二行亙天' = 'at dusk there were strange clouds in the northern sky, it is said; two bands of white vapour stretched across the sky.' (Correction 25 October 2026: we first misread 奇 'strange' as 赤 'red' from a small screenshot; the printed page, sent by Ken, reads 奇. No colour is given.) Date converted with the Senmyo calendar rules: 21 September 1098 (Julian), day 己亥; the method reproduces the Jotoku era start and Yau's 1098 2/18 = 23 March; no leap month in 1098. Not in Yau et al. 1995. '云々' marks hearsay.
