Searched Japanese court diaries for the 993 storm; found a 1098 aurora instead
Ken searched the Tokyo court-diary database by hand. No red or white vapour in 992 to 993. But a Chuyuki note placed at 承徳2年8月24日 describes strange clouds in the north and two white bands across the sky; converted to 21 September 1098, the same night as an Augsburg record of blood-red clouds to the north, before auroras across Europe on 25 to 27 September. Ken then sent the printed page, which corrected our misreading of 奇 'strange' as 赤 'red'.
