1052 carbon-14 candidate
Brehm et al. 2021 flagged a rise in tree-ring radiocarbon at 1052 to 1053. Four studies now cover these years and disagree on when the rise starts: 1053 (Brehm; Rakowski 2026 Kujawy oak) or 1054 to 1055 (Scifo 2024 Furness oak; Terrasi 2020 sequoia and pine). Not confirmed by beryllium-10 or chlorine-36. Two rival hunches: a solar storm in late 1052, or the 1054 supernova.
